My girlfriend and I needed an egress window put in the basement for a bedroom. We found H&R at the Duluth home show and figured we’d sign up for a quote. They came out and quoted us $12,600. Just for an egress window. We ended up cancelling but called back with some additional work we wanted an estimate for. They scheduled a time to come back out for another estimate. We wanted some framing, drywall and flooring for a 12x10 room. The total he priced us was $55,000. I thought this was ridiculous. We decided just to do the window first and maybe call back with the additional work later. Financing was signed and everything. They said they would call back to schedule the window install. The boss calls back and says they won’t do business with us because we cancelled the first time with them. This was never told to us ever. They even came back out a second time. Horrible business and extremely overpriced!! WOULD NOT RECOMMEND

I scheduled an estimate with Hip & Ridge...A day before the appointment, they called and insisted/REQUIRED that both homeowners be present for the estimate -- In the middle of the workday. I politely told them I couldn't commit to both my wife & I being there given work & childcare commitments, but assured them one of us would be available. They firmly refused to even maintain the scheduled appointment if I was unable to ensure both homeowners would be present. They literally threw away a business opportunity because their customers have lives outside of scheduling around H&R's estimates. They also told me that it was to "eliminate follow up questions or having to come back to do additional follow-ups" -- listen, if I'm looking to spend $20k-50k on a project, I feel like getting my questions answered and having a good feeling about what work is being done and how is not unreasonable.
That's an absolutely bonkers approach to business and tells you a lot about the character of these folks. Strongly advise against even entertaining them as an option, there's hundreds of other, better contractors in the Dlh/Superior area that have reasonable business practices whom you can support.

Our existing roof was over 40 and in need of replacement. We contacted Hip and Ridge Construction and their representative came out the very next day. She was a pleasure to work with. She explained that there was a 50 year warranty on their materials and workmanship. She measured our roof and then we looked at samples of roofing and materials that we had brought with her. We selected the color and materials we wanted and she was able to give us an estimate on the spot. We signed the contract and two weeks later they came out and completed the job. I am extremely happy with the job they did and the clean up afterwards. I would highly recommend Hip and Ridge to anyone needing a new roof.

Update: So I get Knock at the door this morning. They sent the same guy to try and get me to sign the contract with them. I have had no other contact with this company in 10 months. They just won't take no for an answer. And I just happened to be home today how many times have they tried before today?
Got a cold call about a quote, they were 2 hrs late, then came the hard sale. Quoted us 7k for a new Mastercraft door (200-400 @ menards) and 30 k for 4 windows, and this number was pulled out of thin air, aka scribled on back of scratch paper. Refused to show any type of breakdown. Wouldn't give us a quote without a contract.When we didn't want to sign a contract the same day, price started to come down. Even told us to just sign the contract and their financing, and we could always call back and cancel. We had only wanted a total for comparison as we were still researching, ended up having to ask him to leave 3 times. I have seen their response about they will work on training their new hires... this guy claimed to been with them for years.

We got a roofing estimate at THEIR request. We thought, ok, it's just an estimate. We didn't need much work done. Got our estimate for minimal roof work, for $39,000. We were absolutely shocked. We wanted an estimate only. They said the estimate was good for 18 months. Then they wanted us to sign and put half down. Um... no! We said we only wanted the estimate, as we would be getting other quotes. They immediately grabbed their estimate back (also on scratch paper), and tried lowering the price, but not much. Then they wouldn't let us keep the paper. I said, I thought it was good for 18 months, they said this is the contract. What?! Nice unprofessional contract. Also way overpriced. And super pushy salesman. Seemed to get angry and offended when we didn't want to sign our finances away. Also seemed weird to not want to leave their quote with us to compare prices with others. Thought it was good for 18 months. Also the guy wouldn't take no for an answer. Super frustrating. Many many red flags. Preying on people. Sad. I also have a picture of the quote. I got it to actually compare quotes. Stay away from this company.
